Today's i>Clicker2 bonus UP

Today's students who registered the i>Clicker2 now have one more bonus point. Check your Grades page.

Yesterday, 7 students got a bonus point, today 146, about 60% of the class. Good!

Office hours

Office hours for PSC1121-0002 will be in Physical Sciences Building room 158 (PSB158), from 10:30 AM to 12 Noon on Tuesdays, starting 1/14 next week, and continuing until the last week of April. Exception: March 4, during spring break.

Procedure: for office hours, I always have some work to do, so the agenda is yours. Bring a question, a homework exercise that has stumped you, maybe an exam score to double check etc. It is YOUR agenda, so any topic under the sun is kosher!

Registering your i>Clicker2 in Webcourses

I see that many students have started registering their i>Clicker2s in Webcourses.

Excellent.

Best three midterms

I just created a new row in you Grades page, "Best three midterms" out of a possible 120 points.

This is a large fraction of your semester grade, going into the final exam. It is good, because 92% of the class made it to all four midterms and have the benefit of dropping one stinky and dinky midterm score. Nice.

Other big pieces of semester grade -- HW and clicking -- are still in progress. I will be trying to update clicking data today, until my brain melts or mental discombobulational chaos sets in.

Side note: 90/120 or more would be a letter grade "B" average.

Red hydrogen

From APOD, Astronomy Picture of the Day

This is an interesting view of an astronomical nebula, the Veil Nebula, loaded with hydrogen (red).

Here is a nifty reference for the spectra of other elements: Spectra of Gas Discharges by Joachim Köppen, Strasbourg/Illkirch/Kiel 2007.
