For now, however, you can eyeball the schedule, which is linked to the Webcourses home page. I updated the schedule a few minutes ago, and as more SSG leaders report in with their meeting place info, I will continue to update the schedule.

So keep an eye on it this weekend and figure out which SSG you'd like to shoot for.

Mini-homework is ready.

HW 15 is ready to go. There are two calculations and plenty of time to work it out. I suggest the use of paper and pencil for backup, because the scientific notation required by Planck's constant, h = 6.63 × 10^-34 Joule sec, might send your iPhone calculator into FAIL.

Subtotals

For grade calculational purposes, I just set up four subtotals at the top of your Grades page in Webcourses:

1. Subtotal of iClicker2 answered (as of Mar. 11)
2. Subtotal of iClicker2 correct (as of Mar. 11)
3. Subtotal of HW performance (as of Mar. 11)
4. Subtotal of best three out of four midterms

If your iClicker2 answered is 43 or more, you've got the baseline 85% answered. If I were calculating grades today, that would earn you 20/20 for your classwork participation pointage. Cf., syllabus.

The best three out of four midterms slot will remain empty for a few more weeks, naturally.

If anything strikes you as off, save your question until FRIDAY. For now, study and prepare for tomorrow's midterm!

I will be in my office, PS156, in the Physical Sciences Building, at about 7:30 AM tomorrow (Tuesday). You can sign up for one of the five Tuesday afternoon SSGs. First come, first served.

Makeshift office hours today.

For today, I will be holding informal office hours in the lecture hall for two hours before lecture begins. SO… from about 11:30 AM until lecture, you can check in and work on HW with me or any other topic.

Homework 9 is ready.

You can now work on homework HW 9. It mainly concerns interference effects, but there is a bit of wavelngth practice in there, too.

We have an important demonstration tomorrow.

Make every effort to be in lecture tomorrow, Feb. 19. We will have a demonstration of diffraction.

It is important because it will be the backbone for a huge amount of physics, starting in this chapter on waves, next unit on electricity and magnetism, then on to the periodic table, chemical compounds, rocks and minerals and oceanography -- i.e., the remainder of the semester!

HW 7 is UP.

Homework #7 is now available. For extra safety, I set it so that you can make five attempts.

I just finished uploading i>Clicker2 data from lecture L5 on Jan. 15 up to yesterday's lecture L11.

Pay no attention to the percentages etc. in the grey area below the i>Clicker2 data. Those percentages are inaccurate but cannot be turned off.

Homework 5 is ready.

There is a new homework assignment, HW 5, ready in Webcourses. It includes some practice with computing stopping time and stopping distance.

Remember: Webcourses rewrites the calculation problems with random values of speed, mass etc. each time you attempt the homework.  So you cannot recycle answers from one attempt to another.  Read carefully!

Unfortunately, the software did not record audio during the lecture L5, last Wednesday. I have tried various tricks to recover the audio, but it is not possible.

However, all the equations, diagrams and notes are there.

HW 2 is now ready in Webcourses. I hope it helps you prepare for Exam 1, but it should be just one of many study tools you use to prepare.

Make sure to bring a raspberry-colored UCF scantron with the Pegasus logo, your i>Clicker2, a calculator plus pencil and eraser.

Yesterday, 7 students got a bonus point, today 146, about 60% of the class. Good!

Office hours

Office hours for PSC1121-0002 will be in Physical Sciences Building room 158 (PSB158), from 10:30 AM to 12 Noon on Tuesdays, starting 1/14 next week, and continuing until the last week of April. Exception: March 4, during spring break.

Procedure: for office hours, I always have some work to do, so the agenda is yours. Bring a question, a homework exercise that has stumped you, maybe an exam score to double check etc. It is YOUR agenda, so any topic under the sun is kosher!
