Exam 4 up

I just placed your Exam 4 data into the Webcourses grade book. There is the scantron portion (35 points possible) and the clicker portion (5 points possible).

I am still working on the code statement, getting it decoded and then grading each one. So you might get one or two of the bonus points from Exam 4 clicker question 3. I will announce it here when that data is ready.

Bonus points opportunity

You can contribute a multiple choice question for Exam 4 in out newly opened discussion area, "Bonus question for midterm 4."

TA Chloee' and I will eyeball your questions, maybe suggest an amendment or correction. If your question is good enough to use on Exam 4, you will have earned a bonus point for your semester grade. On Exam 3, I used several, so give it a shot for this exam!

Your clicker points are UP.

There were plenty of students who got the clicker calculation correct yesterday, for 3 points. The answer was 1815 calories to prepare that nice cup of tea.

Also, after eyeballing every answer, I decided to award 1 or 2 partial credit points, depending on what you sent in for an answer.

All of this is now posted in Webcourses, on your My Grades page, including whether you got partial credit or not.

Bonus points question opportunity

For those of you that would like to try to earn another bonus point, the discussion area for that is now open in Webcourses. If your questions is good enough to include on Exam 3, then you will earn a bonus point.

Dr. B highway disasterness, but Exam 3 on schedule for Wed.

Sorry that I had to cancel lecture today. My vehicle had a slight disaster on the highway on the way to campus.

We will have Exam 3 on Wednesday according to the normal schedule.

Look in Webcourses for a review sheet -- we were going to do it in lecture today using iClicker, but you can use it on your own as a study sheet.

Big disaster, no class on Friday

Due to a disaster with my lower back, which is trying to assassinate me with muscle spasms, I must cancel lecture for today. No homework, either!

We will have regular lecture on Monday, Feb. 27. I will see you then and hand back your exam 2 printouts.

9, incredible!

WHOA!

It's incredible! I used nine of the student contributed questions on Exam 2. Usually, I only find one or two worth using.

Those bonus points are now UP in Webcourses.

Exam 2 scores are UP.

Except for a few students with papers out of the regular paperwork channel, your exam 2 scores are now up, in Webcourses.

The average was 24/40, kind of low, because there was a ton of students who scored 25/40, way more than the number who scored either 24/40 or 26/40. Unusual, but...

Tomorrow in lecture, we will have regular lecture PLUS hand out exam printouts.

The destiny of your brains

There are going to be a few real brain burners on Exam 2 and at least one of them will be in multiple choice.

I therefore predict that multiple crania will experience high temperatures at which human brains begin to fry. Just a theory.

That being the case, make sure to study HARD. Your other destiny must be to crush with impunity all midterm exams of Dr. B!

Exam 1 grades UP.

Your exam 1 scores are now up. The total is the sum of clicker and scantron performance:

   ..Exam 1 scantron
 + ..Exam 1 clicker
   ------------
     Exam 1

The average was about 72%. I normally do not assign letter grades on midterm exams, only on semester grades, but if I did, this average would be a C+. Not bad.

P.S. Some of you have no clicker data, so no score in that row. The actual data you sent is on a lower row of your My Grades page, as well as the sentence you coded.

Also, a few of you might not have scantron scores if your scantron did not get scored -- either by plan or because of a mistake on your PID. In either case, we will try to get that scantron score rounded up in the next day or so.

Squeeze

When you get to the BA119 lecture hall this morning, squeeze in to the middle of the row. Every single seat is going to be occupied.

Make sure your iClicker 2 is ready. I have a real brain-burner ready for you!

Bonus point question

You can earn a bonus point for your semester grade by creating a really good question for Exam 1, viz.

Post a question that you create, based on your lecture notes, readings or other materials.

Here are the rules:

  1. Create a multiple choice question with four or five options.
  2. Indicate the correct option with an * asterisk.
  3. In the Subject box, type in a short phrase that decries your question.
  4. Below your question's options, skip a few lines and type in the date of lecture or page in the textbook where another student can study up on the correct concept.
  5. Dr. B will comment or maybe ask you to revise the question.
  6. If your question is good enough to use on the exam, you will earn one bonus point; for the final exam, two bonus points.

Take a look in Discussions, and you will find the right place to post your question.

Fast fast fast

Amazing. Today the test scoring center is moving fast FAST FAST! I can hardly believe it is the same red stapler guys.

Anyway, the afternoon section's scantron data will be up in Webcourses directly. Good.

Exam 4 scores, best 3 midterms are UP.

Students in the morning section, you can now see what your best three midterm exams are, a few lines below the score for Exam 4.

Students in afternoon section, your "best three midterms" will not be kosher until we get your exam 4 grades back. They are still in the possession of the red stapler guys in test scoring. Maybe by tomorrow we will have them back.

Bonus point questions OPEN

I just opened up the bonus point opportunity in Discussions.
  1. Construct a multiple choice question about a concept from the covered chapters and lectures.
  2. Label the correct option with an * asterisk.
  3. Below the question, skip a few lines and then type in the day of lecture, the homework assignment, or the page in the textbook that gave rise to your question -- this way other students can study up on this concept.
  4. In the "Subject:" box, type in a short phrase that describes the concept in your question.
  5. If your question is good enough to use on the exam, I will award you a bonus point, plus
    1. you will already know the right answer to it (one question on the exam guaranteed that you know the answer), and
    2. so will anyone who studies through this discussion area!
Take a look at my example question, be creative and make your question a good one.

Exam 3 scores are all UP.

Exam 3 clicker and scantron scares are now UP, for both sections.

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

Exam 3 is in the pipeline.

I have started looking at the clicker data for both sections and the scantrons are cooking. More on Friday, hopefully sooner.

Oh, boy!

What a test you will have tomorrow! All I can say is: make sure your cranium muscle is ready!
