SMA points are on the books.

SMA points
I will be working on the SMA files from yesterday. Some specs:
- Each SMA item is worth 2 points.
- I will comb through each sections data, for each item, to see if any answers merit partial credit if incorrect.
- So partial credit might earn you one point, instead of zero on any of the ten SMA questions.
- This will optimize your SMA pointage in a just manner, but...
- it will take some time to do this.

"Exam 3 SMA.19 partial credit"

Some of you earned partial credit on the numerical question in SMA, #19. I set up a row at the bottom of your My Grades page in Webcourses, and it will indicate one of three states:
- "no" if your numeric answer was completely wrong,
- "yes" if your numeric answer was clearly half-correct, in which case your ..Exam 3 SMA sub-score has one partial credit point in it,
- "Answer was correct." This signifies that you got the calculation right on the mark, so your ..Exam 3 SMA sub-score contains 2 points of full credit for #19.

About ..Exam 1 scantron and ..Exam 1 SMA in the grade book
When I set up the grade book before the semester starts, I always set the midterm scantron rows to be 59 points and the SMA rows to be 1 point. But I never know the exact splits until I actually write the exam.
Thursday's exam worked out to be 50 and 10.
So I just went in and modified those two rows of the grade book to read "out of 50" and "out of 10." But the other two midterms will be at 59 and 1 until the day they are taken. So Exam 2 might eventually be 46 and 14, for instance, but for now, I just leave it as 59 and 1.

SMA points are UP, sec. 0004
Sec. 0004 students, your SMA points are now UP. They are in the "..Exam 4 SMA" row of your My Grades page. You can now add them up mentally, "..Exam 4 SMA" + "..Exam 4 scantron" for your Exam 4 total. As soon as I get the scores for sec. 0003 in, I will active the main "Exam 4" row to add the two subscores as usual.
I also installed some new rows way below there, to post the actual data you sent on each of the three SMA questions. This way you can double check your error against the solution in the CPS folder. Another row indicates whether you got some partial credit on #1. Those partial credit points are already included in the "..Exam 4 SMA" row, so do not ask about adding them in again.

Interesting codes, section 0004
I just spent 30 minutes reading and analyzing your codes for SMA question #1. Very interesting. I decided to make it a 2 point question, and I am giving partial credit for some of the unconventional codes.
Effectively, this means SMA #1 is 1 regular point and one bonus point.
As a result dozen students nabbed 4 points on SMA, 2 regular and 2 bonus. I josh you guys about brain burners, but when I can see what you are thinking and award extra points, it gives me great joy.

Today's SMA data are up
Section 0004, I just uploaded your SMA scores from today's review. Also, I included your actual answers for #9 and #10, for future reference and so that you can double check.
I warded two points on #10 if you got it correct, and 1 point if you got the scientific notation messed up. So the "L36-C25 SMA answered" is 10, but the "L36-C25 SMA correct" is 11. For those of you shooting for the 75% correct CPS bonus (cf. syllabus), that extra point will help a teeny bit. :)
Section 0003, you have zeroes in your "L36-C25 SMA answered" and "L36-C25 SMA correct" rows until tomorrow!

Green jello and SMA for section 0003

But now, after all that intense number crunching, the SMA points, all five of them being bonus points, are now UP in Webcourses.
When the scantron scores come in, I will post them in Webcourses, too, ASAP.

Exam 2 grades UP

NOTE:
- Since Exam 2 was all scantron and no SMA, the "..Exam 2 scantron" row will be the same as the main "Exam 2" row.
- Exam 3 and 4 plus the final exam will have SMA, so we will be back to normal.
- I will be looking at exam 1 and 2 grades this weekend, with an eye toward SSG activity. More on Monday.
