Morning Sec. 0001 scores UP.

You all in the morning lecture section 0001, your scantron scores are up now. Also, your clicker scores are up, making your Final Exam score complete. Now you can get your final semester points total worked out.

Sec. 0002, I am still working on your clicker points.

ALSO: for all sections, I am still processing Chuck Norris data (iClicker and HW) plus several lectures worth of iClicker data. So it will be rolling into place in the next few days.

Afternoon sec. 0002, your final scantron scores are up!

Scantron scores are now UP for the afternoon section 0002. Max possible was 79.

I am still working on the clicker points, so hold your fire on that for a little while longer.

You guys in the morning sec. 0001, it will be a while on your scantrons.

Bonus points subtotal

THere is a new row on your My Grades page in Webcourses, "Bonus points subtotal," which tallies up all the bonus point opportunities.

I will be working on bonus points for the next few days, so your subtotal in this row might change up or down, disappear, reappear then disappear again.

I have exam scores from Sec. 0002, the afternoon section. I will try to get them posted this morning or this afternoon. Keep an eye on your My Grades page.

33 scantrons absentees

Scantron scores for the final exam are going up in a few minutes.

Except for 33 students who have no score -- doubtless due to not having a PID or test form bubbled in. You 33 will have to wait til tomorrow when I get back up to campus.

SMA points are on the books.

Final exam SMA points, including partial credit, are now UP for both sections. If you got an odd number of "..Final exam SMA" points, you earned at least 1 partial credit point. Even the " slackers" are finished.

SMA points

I will be working on the SMA files from yesterday. Some specs:
  1. Each SMA item is worth 2 points.
  2. I will comb through each sections data, for each item, to see if any answers merit partial credit if incorrect.
  3. So partial credit might earn you one point, instead of zero on any of the ten SMA questions.
  4. This will optimize your SMA pointage in a just manner, but...
  5. it will take some time to do this.

Final exam today, 1 PM

Final Exam today
1:00 PM
  1. Sec. 0M01 in MAP260
  2. Sec. 0M02 in CSB101

120 points, 110 questions

The final exam, which I just finished writing, has this structure:
  1. 13 matching (on scantron portion)
  2. 12 true/false (on scantron portion)
  3. 75 multiple choice (on scantron portion)
  4. 10 calculation in SMA, each worth 2 points.
That makes it 100 scantron one-pointers, 10 SMA two-pointers, 120 points overall.

Make sure that you have Duracells or Energizers in your CPS device!!

Chuck Norris Week

As designated by international physics super genius Dr. Roy G. Biv, next week is Chuck Norris Week. This being the case, we will have the following Chuck Norris bonus activities:
  1. For Tuesday sec. 0M01, a special combo-review SMA session on CPS in the last 20 minutes or so of Tuesday's lecture;
  2. for Thursday sec. 0M02, a special mega-review SMA session on CPS in the last 20 minutes or so of Thursday's lecture;
  3. for both sections, a super mega-combo homework assignment, Homework X, with review concepts and calculations to prep for the final exam.
Each activity will have a BUNCH of questions, but I will boil them down to one or two bonus points for each activity. Note: each SMA set will be graded based not on how many you answer, but on how many you answer correctly.

With this special set of Chuck Norris activities, you can nab a few bonus points and make up some ground from having missed some HW assignments or CPS sessions in lecture. Nice.

Section 0001 scantrons are UP.

Section 0001, your scantron scores are up, except for a few people who screwed up their PID or test form dots.

THis completes the final exam tally.

Average for combined sections = 56.2/80 on the final exam, which works out to about 70%, which'd be C+ if I gave letter grades on exams, maybe a teeny bit low, but considering that none of the SSG leaders took the final, it is OK.

Section 0002 final exam scantron scores are up.

Afternoon section 0002, your scantron scores are up. Look in your My Grades page in Webcourses.

Morning section 0001, we are still waiting for your guys' data.

It will be a while until I get all the semester grades figured out, so do not bug me about grades for a few days.

Friday, December 10, 2010

Afternoon section, good work.

Final exam for the after lunch bunch section 0002 is now sitting in the computer center, waiting to be scanned.

Your SMA points are up. Anything above 2 points in the "..Final exam SMA" row is bonus.

SO... section 0002, you are done for the semester. Good work.

Monday: students in the morning section 0001 are up to bat, for a tough final exam. Be ready!

Analysis

Just in passing, I noticed something about an old final exam in my files. There were questions from chapters 2-8, 11-13, 15, 20-23. Normal for a cumulative final exam.

However, there were more questions relating to chapters 3, 6, 7, 20 and 22 than to other chapters. Chapter 12 also had a good number of questions. Let's take a look at general topics of these chapters:
  1. Newton's three laws of motion
  2. momentum
  3. energy
  4. Bernoulli :)
  5. Coulomb interaction
  6. Electromagnetism

If exams are about what the instructor considers important, then the above list is a mini-snapshot of my mind, PSC1121-wise..... at least, for that semester.

What about this semester's final exam? We have a few chapter 19 and chapter 24 concepts beyond what that past semester covered. So...

It is just a passing thought. I cannot tell you what will be on this semester's final exam, but it might behoove you to look back to the past in order to prepare for the future. :)

Clicker points are up.

What a test!

Your clicker question is now graded and UP. Look in the "..Final exam SMA" row on your My Grades page in Webcourses.

That was a tough question, but a decent fraction of the class did nab it. You get either 2 points or zero points, and these are bonus points.

Scantrons will go over to the test scoring service asap. We will probably have to wait until Monday for those scores.

So right now your Final Exam score looks kind of lonely, either 2 points or zero points. But as soon as we get scantrons back, that final exam row will fill in nicely.

Time for everybody to rest and relax a bit.

Section 0004, go look!

You MWF section 0004 students finally catch a break: your scantrons got graded in one business day, for once. The scores are up.

For reasons I explained in lecture, all your points are in the "..Final exam scantron" row, and the "..Final exam SMA" row is unused, which is why you get the ( ) parentheses. But the "Final examination" row is calculated normally, and it is your final exam score.

Now I will start putting together semester grades. Do not bug me about them for a day or so, please.

OK, now they are UP.

Section 0003, your scantron scores are now up. This "..Final exam scantron" + "..Final exam SMA" add up to your final exam score, out of 80 possible.

That "Final examination" row of My Grades is also running now. It is the sum of your SMA and scantron.

You guys in section 0004, no word yet from test scoring on your scantrons. :(

Exam scores, section 0003

T/Th section 0003 has scantron scores are back. I will be posting them later today, after I get the online students going with their final exam. WHAT A WEEK!!
