Thursday's lecture = GO

We will have regular lecture on Thursday morning, back to the normal schedule.

Thursday's lecture will be on gravitation, so do some reading and skimming in chapter 5, if you have 30 min. Especially look at the diagrams and illustrations. We will review and elaborate the blurb on p. 81, "Working it out|Gravity" plus some of the exercises on circular motion and orbits from chapter 4, p. 73:

1. exercise 8, generic circular motion;
2. exercise 9, Earth-Sun orbital system;
3. exercise 10, Earth-Moon orbital system.

You can eyeball those tonight and maybe bug Ashton and Meg with questions in Discussions. :)

No HW for Thursday

Sorry. I have been so busy getting healthy that I have not gotten to an assignment for you for tomorrow (Thursday) as I had expected to do. I know that it is SO disappointing to not have any HW again, but you will just have to try to keep your composure. :)

See you in lecture, on Thursday. We will have exam printouts to hand back.

Lecture cancelled/medical

Due to a medical emergency I must cancel lecture for today, Tuesday! Big disaster.

I will set up a special circular-motion study-reading homework assignment for bonus points, to replace some lecture work. Look for that this afternoon.

See you for more some good gravitational acceleration concepts on Thursday, normal time. That will be wrap up of chapter 4 and digging deep in chapter 5, universal gravitation.

Hopefully the doctor will not have to amputate at the neck. :)

Rapid

That has to be a record for getting exams graded and back: about three hours, same day. Excellent!

However, be aware: it will not always be so rapid!

Exam 1 grades up: nobody flunked, nobody aced.

Your scores for exam 1 are now up. Look in your My Grades page in Webcourses.

Bonus points:

1. the bonus point from CPS ("Exam 1 SMA bonus") is also up - if you answered correctly;
2. for a few students, there is a bonus point ("Bonus question MT1") for having suggested a question for this exam that we adjudged to be good enough to use.

Bonus points are also in My Grades' "BONUS POINTS AREA" right below the exam scores.

Exam1's highest score was 49/50 and lowest was 26/50, so nobody aced it, yet nobody flunked it either! This tells me the exam was challenging yet fair.

There are a few students who were absent or who have a score pending for some other reason. For those students, the My Grades page reads either "pending" or "no score reported." We will try to sort that out when I get back to campus next Tuesday.

Blurb on Ex. 11, p. 73 in Lecture Files

If you go into Webcourses and check the Lecture Files, then you will see a little blurb page of Exercise 11, p. 73, the baseball exercise we worked out in lecture yesterday. I added some extra detail and a nice color diagram with velocity vectors accurately drawn. Have a look and see if it makes sense to you.

Go get after the eight exercises in HW 6. It is now available inside Webcourses.

Prepare for exam 1. Office hours tomorrow morning 8:00-9:45 AM and 2:45-4:15 PM, in Starbucks, UCF bookstore.

Your homework assignment for Tuesday is now UP. HW 5 requires a bit of reading in chapter 3.
