Exam blurbs

For those of you who've gotten your exam printouts, you can now correlate your incorrect questions to each question's general topic -- but not the verbatim question itself -- by looking at the blurb files, in Webcourses. Find it at the yellow pencil icon.

With the blurb file plus your exam printout, you can start building up a nice study guide for the final exam.

L4

The first official iClicker 2 session was Lecture #4 (L4), last Wednesday. There were 7 questions.

I just uploaded your L4 iClicker 2 data. It breaks down into two figures:
  1. "L4 answered" which is your class participation figure, the number of items you answered, whether correctly or incorrectly.
  2. "L4 correct" which goes toward the 4 bonus points for iClicker performance, how many you answer correctly; cf. the syllabus about this.
Take a look at your syllabus and review the distinction between class participation pointage and the performance bonus. Each lecture will have two data like this. Right now, I have only uploaded L4.
To keep track of your iClicker 2 activity, I set up a log sheet, linked to the home page. It shows basic data for each session, date, number of questions.

Unregistered iClicker 2, no points for you.

I just uploaded to "Early clicker bonus..." rows in My Grades. Lots of nice juicy bonus points. Good.

The following serial numbers, however, will not accumulate any points for any clicking, either in class or on exams, until registered in Webcourses.
  1. #22563642 ←← not even an iClicker 2!
  2. #83450BCD
  3. #81C24A09
  4. #8259CF14
  5. #821A2BB3
  6. #82F73540

I will now start working on clicker data from last week and this week. More news to come.

Early iClicker 2 bonus points are UP.

I just got the iClicker 2 roster sorted out and now the bonus points are up in Webcourses if you were registered by Wednesday or by Friday. 83 students got a bonus point on Wednesday, and 138 got a bonus point on Friday. Nice.

The rest of you, get that iClicker 2 registered in Webcourses, ASAP, because today we start official class participation. If you missed registration last week, it could not hurt your grade; today, however, it starts taking bites out of your grade if you are not registered.

Who has #8004D753 for an iClicker serial number?

If your i>Clicker 2 has serial number

8004D753

then you had better re-register it in Webcourses. It is not registered and it will not correlate to your semester grade without registration. The i>Clicker 2 software cannot handle unregistered clickers.

Homework and iClicker pointage

The conversion of your iClicking and homework to pointage on your semester grade is getting down to the wire. I have just activate the iClicker pointage row of your My Grades page in Webcourses.

The iClicker pointage is tricky to compute correctly in Webcourses, because it is not a real spreadsheet. For this reason, I cannot totally guarantee that your iClicker pointage will not change as we click through the last lectures of the semester. But for now, it is looking OK.

You can add up best three midterms, HW and iClicker pointage, then divide by 160 for your percentage going into the final exam.

Your iClicker 2 is still not registered.

Here is a set of serial numbers of clickers that are attempting to click in lecture but which have no name attached.Unregistered i>clicker remotes:
#814561A5
#8180CBCA
#81830200
#81A2FEDD
#81A488AD

You will not be getting any cliclker points until these are registered through Webcourses and only through Webcourses.

Your clicker is unregistered if it is on this list.

Here is a set of serial numbers of clickers that are attempting to click in lecture but which have no name attached.

Remember, you have to register your i>Clicker 2 in Webcourses only. Nowhere else is appropriate.

L5 data are up for afternoon section 0002.

Students in afternoon section 0002 may now view today's clicker data in their My Grades page on Webcourses.

L5 clicker scores are up, for morning section.

I just uploaded the iClicker scores for today, for section 0001. Look toward the bottom of the page, where you'll see the "L5 answered" and "L5 correct" rows.

Every time we use clickers, I will upload the data in this manner.

You guys in Sec. 0002, you'll have to wait til after lecture, maybe tonight, to see your clicker data. So hold your horses, but be ready for clicking in class at 1:30 PM!

Grade book

The grade book seems to be having conniptions today, like last week. So your early clicker bonus point will have to wait until tomorrow (Tuesday) before it shows up on your My Grades page.

Is it registered?

I just added a row to your My Grades page in Webcourses. It indicates whether your i>Clicker 2 is registered and on the roster yet; L2 bonus point if any, is on a different line. I updated this afternoon about 5 PM. I will update this row tomorrow afternoon again, after the afternoon lectures.

Bring that i>Clicker 2 tomorrow.

L2 bonus UP, afternoon section

Youse guys in the afternoon section 0002, your L2 early clicker bonus point is now UP.... but only if you have registered your ci>Clicker 2 is registered through Webcourses. Many of you have done so.

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

Section one bonus is UP.

You guys in sec. 0001 who registered your i>Clicker 2 in Webcourses before class today and who clicked in a few of those tough questions, your bonus point is now UP on your My Grades page in Webcourses. It is in the row marked "L2 early clicker bonus." There were 22 of youse who snagged the bonus.

Excellent.

Sec. 0002, I will synch the roster right before lecture, so be ready to click like maniacs in lecture this afternoon! Whoever
  1. is registered through Webcourses, and
  2. clicks in lecture this afternoon,
will earn the bonus point.

#81DFB9E7

Whoever has iClicker2 serial number #81DFB9E7: your device is not registered yet. Make sure to register it in Webcourses, and then you will collect bonus points. Without registration in Webcourses, no nothing!

Summary analytic test in Webcourses

In another Webcourses area, "GEP PSC1121 11Spring", there is a summary analytical test you should all take this week, before hitting the final exam. It is not part of your semester grade but part of the university's assessment plan for its GEP program. It takes about 15 minutes or less.

Are you on the CPS roster yet? You can check.

I just uploaded roster data for all sections, a simple Yes if you have successfully registered your CPS device for clicking in lecture. It is in the row of your My Grades page called "Registered for CPS?" down below the blue line.

I will update this row again tonight and maybe tomorrow afternoon.

This row also includes your CPS response pad number. Everyone has a their own response pad number; Gloria Scott is #1, for instance. With the pad number, you'll be able to verify on the CPS screen in class when your answer has been received. It works nicely.

For the rest of you all that are not on the roster yet, get in gear and get registered up as soon as you can. Turn off popup blocking and if you bought the greyish brownish device, drop the leading zero(s) from the serial number when registering. GO! GO! GO!

Contact me only in Webcourses with course mail.

Please remember to use course mail in Webcourses to contact me privately. I do not use conventional email during the semester.
